A Solar Pool Heater consists of solar collectors coupled together in an array and installed in a sunny location. The most common location being the roof of the home or building. Water is circulated from the pool to the solar collectors via your existing pool pump. The sun heats the water in the collectors and is then returned back into the pool .
There are two types of Solar Pool Heating Systems.
Manual System- A manual valve turns the water “on” to the solar collectors and circulates water through them. Solar heated water flows back into the pool but only when the pool pump is running. For best results the pool pump runs between the hours of 9:00AM and 4:00PM. A timer usually controls the hours of operation.
Automatic System- Same as the manual system except operated by an automatic Solar control. Instead of having to manually turn the solar pool system “on” (or run it by a timer) the Solar control senses hot and cold at the collector location and turns the system on or off for you automatically. It can also turn on the pool pump if needed.
The Solar Pool system can be sized for any pool and any desired temperature , simply by adding additional collectors. One Solar pool collector typically adds 1 degree above the average ambient temperature for the month. The average pool requires 9-10 collectors. Therefore a ten panel system can add 10 degrees.

Solar Pool Heaters typically last 12-15 years.
Maintenance is minimal. The only moving part is the diverter valve, which sends water up to the collectors. |
